to the artists, designers and craftspeople who think I call their work kitsch... this is NOT the case, it refers to my own work

meanwhile in my studio ...

Finally started this work that will be part of a project in the Open Studio tour in 2 months.
I have been thinking and rethinking it for weeks now. It needs to be finished before sunday, but will only be revealed in a month ... if I manage to get it right. This is so different from my other work that unexpected surprises still might spoil the result.

Els Vanden Meersch - visual artist

Excluded Interiors
Entering a dark claustrophobic space - next room a projection of photographs - back to a very dark narrow passage

- next room a blinding bright tiny space with photographs pasted on walls. Photographs of dark, claustrophobic, empty, derelict rooms.
I liked it.

'Els Vanden Meersch sees her photographs, sculptures and installations as psychological portraits.'

Eric Geerdens - plaster sculptures

'The sculptures reflect the artists personality and personal history.'

These sculptures actually remind me of a comment I got - on one of my works - from a visitor during my Open Studio Days two years ago. The woman said that 'bandaging' was not an 'art discipline'. I guess that, if no one ever tried to use a different material to express himself , we all would still be painting caves with pigments and sticks.

Jurjen Ravenhorst at Affordable Art Fair

We visited the Affordable Art Fair this weekend in Brussels. Unfortunately at the wrong hour. It was far too crowded to get a proper view on the artworks. On our way out we realized we had been lucky, new visitors were queueing up in a 40 meter long line.
It was not obvious to get decent pictures. I tried. I'll post a few in the next days.

I can't explain why, but I was particularly drawn to these wall-sculptures - or 3D paintings. They really don't show well in the picture (thanks Jurjen for your kind cooperation).

I should have taken some close-ups but was too disturbed by the crowd, it makes me nervous. Better next time.

François du Plessis - mixed media

Now, this is right up my alley. Colourful and with reclaimed materials.

Jan Marechal - fun ceramics

While walking from one location to the next exhibition at SuperStories in Hasselt - Belgium (more posts on this later) we spot this window where emerging ceramic artist Jan Marechal is working. I have an addiction on artists' studios so I had to go in and see what was happening.

He makes these irresistible UFO-boats.

Still setting up shop.
The painting in the background is fascinating, I just don't know who the artist is.
Can someone tell me so that I can add the information
the artist in the background
(again, I don't know who painted this portrait)

Sorry ... not the best picture of his UFO-boats. If I get the chance to go back one day I will try to make a better one.

meanwhile in my studio

Still working on new stacked ceramic sculptures.
At the end of April - if all goes well - I will have Open Studio Days, so I'm not revealing too much right now.
