to the artists, designers and craftspeople who think I call their work kitsch... this is NOT the case, it refers to my own work

Carla Arocha & Stéphane Schraenen

A large dark space... at the end a mysterious light.

Fascinating ... it changes from every angle you look at it.  The intriguing part of it is that what you actually see is the void within the stacked glassplates.

Engels & Quix - Stereo

A playful installation that makes funny little sounds.

Walking around the installation one has the impression of hearing little crickets and other funny sounds coming from the ceiling or elsewhere in the room.

Why did I take so many pictures? I do have this shadow addiction, can't help it, it's fascinating. So ... one more...

Bubblewrap is ART

Yesterday's post took us to the technology used in the early years of industry, this one however is something quite different.  I am absolutely fascinated!

Gebhard Sengmüller (Austria) - Very Slow Scan Television (VSSTV) 2005

Needles inject colour into the individual bubbles.

VSSTV - Large television images with a rate of one per day.  I'm speechless...
View the video HERE to have a look at this amazing engine at work.

Coal Fired Computers by YoHa

It looks like an engine from a not so distant past.  Kids are very attracted to it, elders get a nostalgic feeling.

A coal-fired boiler hisses and pufs large amounts of dirty smoke into the air ...

... the large yellow cable leads through a window ...

... and gives power to run computers in the exhibition area upstairs.

What looks like a playful installation gets more serious, at a closer look ...

... we detect blackened lungs.  The whole story and concept of this installation can be found HERE
