welcoming the visitors

The week previous to the open studio days, Anita Huybens' partner delivered all the stones gathered by many of her friends. Some time in the future, along a walk trail passing her home, a stoneman will rise to commemorate this unique person. Walkers and bikers will be able to add more stones and pebbles to keep her memory alive.

In the meantime I started a small version with the gathered stones . It welcomes visitors and will remain here until it finds its proper place in a public place. I only could spend half an hour to make it, still so much clearing and cleaning to do in the studio before the weekend

Our municipality organizes an exhibition with local artists every two years. It's the Weekend van de Lubbeekse Kunstenaars - Weekend of the Artists from Lubbeek.
More than 60 creative people display their work.

This edition pays tribute to late Anita Huybens.
Visitors can bring a stone or pebble to participate in an active way to remember this artist; during the exhibition the following days a stoneman will rise. The significance of stonemen were an inspiration for Anita's work and ideas.

The tour started with nice autumn weather, perfect for a long walk along old narrow streets and sculptural walls.

I can't remember the wall was like this last year.

Anita Huybens' ceramic poppies are sold to support APOPO a humanitarian organisation that clears landmines.

Folon - poetic, symbolic

I've been living in an bubble these past two weeks, far from daily reality but confronted with a hard and painful one. The departing of Anita Huybens was expected since a long time, but once it is there it still is hard to believe and accept.
The day after the beautiful and moving funeral service I had the need to go out in the wind and rain, taking in oxygen.
It seemed we had stopped breathing all this time.

It was the perfect time to go and see the Folon exhibition. Poetic and symbolic sculptures from a Belgian artist.

These works are such a reminder of Anita's work. During her life she lost persons very dear and close to her. This resulted in ceramic work showing angels in the shape of birds, very similar to these.






From all the sculptures in this wonderful park my favorites where the ones with the suitcases.

chair project continued

Ceramic artist Anita Huybens' chair project, raising funds to finance equipment for the Palestinian Circus school mobilised many other people to join in. Last weekend was the exhibition of Asseoir l'Espoir in Liège - Belgium, the second part of this project in the Walloon part of the country. More information on future Walloon exhibitions is found here (in French).

chair project for circus school

Everywhere you look these days you see deer(s) in interior design. On every blog about interior design or in every magazine you will see them on walls, ceilings, crockery, linen ... in all kinds of material you can imagine....
So here is my contribution to this deermania - a one of a kind chair made by a local artist, for sale at a ridiculous low price : 50 euro.

Chairs made by artists, creatives, students ...

These are only a few from the hundreds of chairs that were exhibited yesterday. Not quality pictures, but then the circumstances are not the best. Lighting is poor, chairs standing close to each other, people walking in between.

The exhibition was a great success, set in a very nice environment.
