Amy Yoes - Model Path - mixed media installation with projected animations

I especially liked the following one.  I was desperate when, once back home, I found out these pictures were not on my camera. Thanks to the photo shop who could rescue them.

A projected video of a winter scene, snow is falling gently in what seems to be the garden of this pavilion.  I'd love to go in, grab a tiny chair, enjoy a warm cup of coffee and watch the peaceful scene for some time.

3 women at MAM Vienna

The first work  'New Citizen', when entering the spacious gallery, was a large mural.  In the large wall, that looked like an intriguing wallpaper, three small screens showing different videos.  A work by Turkish artist Inci Eviner.  Taking pictures from this work was not allowed, but you can have a look at it via this LINK on the artists' site.

"In her sculptures, video works and performances, Madeleine Berkheimer (NL) plays with social conventions from a sexual and erotic perspective, hereby confidently using her own body, challenging the voyeuristic gaze of her audience".

The realism in these sculptures is so stunning, I kept looking to find something that would convince me the leg wasn't real.  The veins, wrinkles, skin tone and irritation at the squeezed toes, a few hairs that escaped waxing the leg are very realistic... fascinating and disturbing at the same time.

Vienna continued

Sunny May-days in Vienna Austria ...

The MuseumsQuartier is definitely a place not to be missed.  The former imperial stables are buzzing with activities.

'With its about 50 institutions for contemporary art and culture the MuseumsQuartier Wien is one of the ten largest cultural areas worldwide'.

Visual and performing arts, dance, architecture, theatre and music as well as new media, design, film, cultural activities for young and old, and eight different gastronomic venues. (we had a nice lunch in one of them)

One can easily spend a day here visiting all the exhibitions at the Leopold Museum, The MUMOK (Museum of Modern Art Ludwig Foundation Vienna) and the Kunsthalle Wien.  And there is a great bookshop on architecture to spend more time in.

The day ends with the sun going down on the old part of Vienna.

Bottom right on the picture above is the city hall and it is a copy of the one in Brussels (I was told), the resemblance is striking apart from the fact that the Vienna building is symmetrical and the one in Brussels isn't.

Back home I realized that the memory card of my camera had let me down in Vienna.  The photo shop managed to rescue my pictures.  I will post a selection of the galleries I've visited back in May.

Arne Quinze X 3

First there was this wooden sculpture at Art Brussels 2010 a few months ago.  Still have a lot of unpublished pictures on the art fair.

Second : a few weeks ago in Vienna-Austria; walking towards the centre I see a similar installation in a shop window, so I decide to have a closer look...

... at more sculptures by Arne Quinze at the Swarovski centre in Vienna.

And third, only very recently ... the impressive installation at Rouen.

Visible as soon as one drives into the city.

Over the central bridge Pont Boieldieu, luckily traffic free as long as the installation is in place.

We saw two similar installations in Brussels some years ago - Cityscape in this post and the Sequence in this one - with very smooth flowing lines; but this one is somehow different...

... instead of the fluent lines and cloudlike rounded shapes of the previous installations, this one reminded me of the flames in a fire.  And then I noticed this sign on the bridge :

The ashes from Jeanne d'Arc - Joan of Arc - were thrown in the Seine near this bridge.  I don't think there is a connection with the artwork, but it is a nice hint if it is one.

Camille by Arne Quinze is a temporary installation for the Festival Normandie Impressionniste 2010 - Rouen Impressionnée - and will last until August 29th.  The wood will be recycled.

Maria Bussmann at Galerie Ernst Hilger

From a distance one can't tell what these little things are on the wall, but once I got closer I was happily surprised.  Small paper sculptures picture different scenes like waterfalls, vineyards, lakes, roads and so much more.  I really enjoyed discovering this.

Different work from this artist in the downstairs exhibition space.

I was not the only one taking pictures, but this is not my equipment, my camera comes in another category.
