here we go - this is what I've been doing

it has been a long time since I posted my own work, so it is time to show a few things of what I've been doing lately.

Prélude

One of my latest chairs

for the chair project and exhibition and Art tour - Kunst op het Hof

originally I had the intention of covering one of these chairs in crochet, but then I decided that I had to use both chairs into one object. I never found a matching chair for my crochet which is nearly done yet, but I keep on looking for one.

on the right is how I got these, the left one is already painted for the crochet chair which I did not continue (still looking)

wait and see

No time for a proper post, but that will soon change. I start to see the end of my new series, soon I will post some pictures of that. The problem is that I just can't take good photos of my lights because the colours are difficult to capture, I will try my best.

take your art for a walk

I'm SO busy in the studio now, I have to catch up and finish things before ... tomorrow; and they are not. After being busy non-stop for 8 hours yesterday (- 1/4 hour for lunch) I really needed to get out of the house to see something completely different. We decided to gon and see an exhibition in a former asylum (pictures of that later) and then go to the city to have a small meal. On our way we saw this happy couple walking down the street.
I thought I had seen this painting before ...


... and yes I did, a few weeks ago during the open studio days. It is from Arne Reynaert.

The picture is too small to really see it but it is the painting in the top right corner, taken during the last open studio days of Kunstroute-Leuven.

I've got more pictures about that, but I will have to wait until most of my work is done to have time to post them.

reading tools

One of my works found a new home. Last week was the reopening of a very nice 'reading tools' shop. Originally designed for fruit it will carry reading glasses in the future. This bamboo grows in my garden (not in this picture), I still can't believe it becomes this big.

the shop OCCHI doubled its space and changed look. I LOVE this counter that ends in stairs towards the upper floor - build in polyester coated MDF.

The shop has a large kid's corner to play in, I wouldn't mind spending some time here.

Different areas to sit while choosing your new glasses, with different design from 60', 70' and other periods.


Definitely one of my favorite items are these airline trolleys repurposed to house the stock.
And the owner has a very nice sense of humour. The mirror you look into when choosing glasses.

trial and error, and finding something new

playing with colours, trying new pieces, loose sketches - but none of these will be realised and make the exhibition.
I suddenly found a new way to work with kitchenware; creating a new version. It took a few weeks of thinking about the technical part of the new idea. And finally today I finished the first part of the new series ... I'm thrilled, it works !!!
Pictures of the new series will be posted in a few weeks, just before the exhibition during the art tour.

chair project continued

Ceramic artist Anita Huybens' chair project, raising funds to finance equipment for the Palestinian Circus school mobilised many other people to join in. Last weekend was the exhibition of Asseoir l'Espoir in Liège - Belgium, the second part of this project in the Walloon part of the country. meanwhile in my studio

I'm very busy making new works for the summer art tour. I'm not showing yet, just a few weeks more.
And there are still many pictures from artists' studios to post in the near future.

World Design - Dublin

Against my habit (but there is a first time for everything) I do a post on a shop - World DESIGN I found it while in Dublin. Although it is quite small I could spend hours looking at the beautiful and very well executed items for sale.
World Design Dublin is an African retail concept store showcasing contemporary, functional, African craft with universal appeal.


The exquisitely made range reflects the quirky signature of African design. The individually crafted pieces glow with sophistication and vitality.

Hand-made products are the new luxury in this world of over-designed mass production.

World Design supports Fair Trade and believes that by marketing and trading hand-made African products we move towards a more balanced global community. A better World.
These beaded figures are from Monkeybiz - South Africa. A desire to create employment for 450 disadvantaged women in Cape Town has led to the creation of Monkeybiz South Africa - a non-profit organisation.

Carrol Boyes' Functional Art

In the delightful shop World Design I came across the work of South African artist Carrol Boyes. Her tableware transforms the mundane into the extraordinary using pewter, stainless steel & aluminium. The gorgeous items show sensual sculptural forms, beautifully handcrafted fluid figures. Her inspiration is firmly rooted in Africa, but a look on her blog tells you other stories too.

the sculpture is walking - Julian Opie - part 2

I got a second opportunity to shoot the walking figures. The plane we needed to catch yesterday night was cancelled, we had to stay another night. So going to the city we passed them again, and this is one of the moving light sculptures on O'Connell Street - Dublin, by Julian Opie.
I was told that the artist picked people from the street because of the way they moved. He filmed them and changed it into this moving figure.

I've got a problem here, I can't edit this video (first time I ever do this). How do I get this in the upright position? and can I remove the sound? it seems like this should be easy, but I can't find it.
