to the artists, designers and craftspeople who think I call their work kitsch... this is NOT the case, it refers to my own work

meanwhile in my studio and home

finishing a reversible Honderdwater ceramic assemblage

topped with a glass plate, this can be used as a side table
or the 'sculpture' is reversible so that both 'ends' can be used as planters

Meanwhile back home - playing with wood

-4 glass kitchen drawers in mint condition found on a flea market
-wooden roller blinds, pieces from a door and shelves, all from our farm and in their original colours.
-4 carved oak legs for a chest of drawers (I got hold of some carved bits and pieces for furniture that was never built, pieces are in the pre-finished state which gives them a unique untreated natural 'roughness')

mise en scène...

btw... the mosaic mirror was made quite a few years ago with gorgeous damaged plates from the thirties.

I have 4 more drawers, so I can make a another similar one.

Wooden bits on all three sides.

Illertal-Ost - Art along the motorway

Driving back north from Southern Germany towards Belgium.  Car needs petrol, legs need stretching and eyes want distraction...

Welcome to Illertal-Ost, a motorway rest-area with a twist.

Guarded by sculptures representing the figures of the Zodiac

A Gaudi-like wall curves along the front.

Inside seperate rooms with different atmospheres ... photos of only a few of them

This large upstairs room has a spacious sundeck with lounge chairs!

and even the restrooms are worth paying for...

Illertal-Ost by architect Herbert Maierhofer

Definitely influenced by Friedensreich Hundertwasser.

bits and pieces

For years I've been keeping these discarded concrete tiles with colourful patterns.

The past days we've been re-using large concrete slabs, and mixed with small pieces of broken tiles they will make a nice outdoor area at my studio.

We're halfway ...

the world's longest art gallery

At some point during our visit to Stockholm we had to take the metro/subway/underground.  One can't do all of the sightseeing/musea/galleries on foot when time is short and distance is long and feet are getting sore.  But in this city you might need extra time to take the metro after all.
Come and visit the underground art gallery with the world's longest art exhibition...

Tunnelbana : about 110 km long...

... about 100 stations, 90 of them with artworks...

... some 140 artists have contributed to the Stockholm Metro's permanent exhibition ...

.... an additional few hundred have added temporary art features...

... waiting to be explored.

Click on images to get the artists' names.

My favourite so far.  It seems that the most spectacular 'rock chambers' are along the blue line.  We only saw this one as the line was closing right then for maintenance and we missed the last train.

The first art work we saw reminded me of Hundertwasser, but in a different version...

I love these tiny feet.

Great little feet, makes me smile every time I see this.
