to the artists, designers and craftspeople who think I call their work kitsch... this is NOT the case, it refers to my own work

expo Survive! - sneak preview

Three artists - Elke Matthijs, Marc Janssens and Raf Veulemans -  are setting up the exhibition Survive! for this weekends' event.  A glimpse of what is to come.

At the same time and location is the UPCYCLE Festival, designers working with recycled items and turning them into interesting objects will show their latest creations.  I'm one of them.

The exhibiting artists are represested by gallery Art Cezar, organizer of the festival.  More info on their site.
Thanks to Isabel De Craene, the driving force behind all this.

A good nights' sleep ahead.  Weather forecast excellent.  What can go wrong?
More tomorrow.

meanwhile ... in my studio

Too busy to make decent posts right now as I have a deadline to catch and finish what I started with this collection yesterday.  Things are evolving, but stuck on the very last detail.  That means I'll probably have a sleepless night trying to work out another solution.
This - hopefully finished - project is for the UPCYCLE-Festival  (click) this weekend.  Will post the - hopefully finished - piece soon.

The Vienna story is to be continued the next days when I get some time to sort the salvaged pictures.

Maria Bussmann at Galerie Ernst Hilger

From a distance one can't tell what these little things are on the wall, but once I got closer I was happily surprised.  Small paper sculptures picture different scenes like waterfalls, vineyards, lakes, roads and so much more.  I really enjoyed discovering this.

Different work from this artist in the downstairs exhibition space.

I was not the only one taking pictures, but this is not my equipment, my camera comes in another category.

More Vienna the next days (and in the previous posts). The photoshop managed to retrieve some of the lost pictures from my camera.

Gabarage - upcycling design

Gabarage is based on 3 pillars: design, ecology and social responsibility.  The workshop contributes to lenghtening product lifecycles and avoiding waste.
Gabarage is operated as a social purpose business venture that prepares disadvantaged groups of people to (re)join the regular labour market.

The objects are designed and made right here.

I was so fascinated by the light effects of the sun shining through the raindrops on the glass roof, I could have stayed for hours watching the changes.

More Vienna the next days.

away and back

Back from 4 days in Vienna Austria.  Visited  nice exhibitions and a whole lot of interesting galleries.  But the frustration is gigantic ... many of my pictures disappeared on the camera.  Never happened before and I can't find the reason why or how this happened.  So many great things I can't show, will post the remaining pictures the next days.

Ann Dieltjens - plaster sculptures

An annual event in Leuven - the 12 weeks of Sint Michiel.  During 12 weeks on wednesdays a different artist and different performers in music, theatre and dance in the setting of the Sint Michael's church in Leuven - Belgium. Previous wednesday was the first time we attended the event.  A brandnew dance company did a great performance in the imposing church.  The exhibiting artist was Ann Dieltjens with her latest work.

Maman

In the confessionals she installed Evil Seed, the 7 capital sins.

Gluttony

Sloth

Lust

Greed

Pride

Envy

Ann Dieltjens makes abstract sculptures in a clear and simple formal language.  The works explore the border region between sculpture, design and architecture.

I discovered I've got unpublished pictures of the gorgeous studio of Ann Dieltjens, taken 2 years ago.  Will post them some time later.  More posts with works of Ann Dieltjens - use the 'search this blog' on top right of page.
