to the artists, designers and craftspeople who think I call their work kitsch... this is NOT the case, it refers to my own work

Russell West & Fiona Morley - wire

Two artists that already caught my attention last year at the Affordable Art Fair in Brussels did it again.  Couldn't walk past without having a closer look at their new work.  Both use wire in their art work but with a completely different outcome.  Still fascinating.

Fiona Morley - A picture from last year.
Fiona Morley -wire & emulsion on canvas
New work.

Russel West - oil on wire on board

Both artists at Woolff Gallery

Peggy Wauters - multidisciplinary artist

Seeing Peggy Wauters artworks at the Affordable Art Fair revealed I'd seen her work at previous occasions, only now did I connect them.

If you're into colour - like I am - the AbrahamArt agency stand is an eyecatcher at the Affordable Art Fair in Brussels.

Alban and the 'authentic fake'

It is the third time I see Alban's work on art fairs and every time I'm fascinated by the illusions he creates.  The objects look so real, old, worn out and heavy ... yet they're made of wood, plaster and resin.

Recently seen at the Affordable Art Fair in Brussels at The French Art Studio; click on this LINK to view more of his work in this gallery.

The pictures below were taken at the Lineart Art Fair in December 2009 at Envie d'Art gallery.

time out

I was planning a long post on our visit to the Affordable Art Fair yesterday ...
Our trusted computer that served us for many years will be put in a permanent sleep; this morning the 'doctor' diagnosed a fatal illness.
Hopefully all information - and especially the thousands of pictures I took the last two and a half years - can be retrieved and saved.
And if things go well I'll be back sometime next week.

Raketenstation Hombroich

Visiting the Hombroich Cultural Environment near Neuss-Germany takes a few hours.  Next to the Museum Island is The Langen Foundation situated on a former NATO missile base.

Japanese architect Tadao Ando designed a unique art and exhibition centre commisioned by art collector Marianne Langen.  A large part of the building lies under the ground with clever ways to let light flow through the structure.

-----------------------------------
Next to the centre, the old military buildings make place for modern architecture, although some old structures remain.

Subterranean military structures are converted into artists' galleries and studios.

A building in progress designed for music by Raimund Abraham.  Would like to visit it once it is finished.

architect - Erwin Heerich

A smaller building by Katsuhito Nishikawa, an outdoor theatre with excellent acoustics.

There are more interesting buildings, but it was so dark and grey and cold that the pictures make them look very gloomy.  I'm sure the place looks much more inviting when the weather is nice.

Insel Hombroich - part 3

It was a dreary, cold day when we decided to visit the Hombroich Museum Island last summer.  Advantage : not many people were visiting the site, we barely met people while walking from one pavilion to another.  But ... once inside there seemend to be an invasion ...

... immobile ... silent ...
...even in empty pavilions, there was no way of escaping them ...
... a few brave ones experimenting with water!!!colors in the rain...

... and what a luxury!  being able to use art sculptures as desks.
