Arne Jacobsen chairs

These 2 original Danish chairs from 1976 came into my possession for the chair project exhibition on this summer's art tour. Some damage on the wood, but I think something nice can come out of this anyway. I don't have drastic changes in my mind for this pair. A few ideas in my mind, but still can't make a decision yet.

Lindos Huespedes - a surreal place to stay

A few years ago we traveled through Spain by car. At home, I found pictures in a Marie Claire magazine, of a gorgeous hotel that looked fabulous. We decided to stay the night while passing in the area.

It was an unforgettable experience.

First I would not call it a hotel, it gives you the wrong idea if you call it that.

In the middle of the fields in the country side near Gerona (and not too far from the world famous restaurant El Bulli from Ferran Adria - unfortunately, we did not eat there). No sign along the road to warn you where it is. A long private road leads you to an old building. Doors locked, a policy of the house, there is no staff. You call a phone number on the door and some time later someone shows up to let you in.... into an amazing place. I have no words to describe the wonder we felt while wandering through the big house. I think at that time there were only two other rooms occupied and that added to the dreamlike feel we had here. It was as in a surreal dreamworld. The public rooms you can use are amazing, and the private rooms are just fantastic with spectacular bathrooms and beautiful artwork. There is an art gallery on the site also.

Unfortunately I only had a phone-camera at that time, really poor quality of photos. The pictures here show only one public space. An open room without windows and part of the roof gone, a kind of patio.

And the pictures on their site do not show the full wonder of the place either, you just have to see it in real.

Artists have designed and developed a design object in collaboration with D&A Lab. The worlds of artists and designers -each with their own methods, instruments and rules- are confronted and united. It makes the artist use new techniques, and create a work that is on the edge between art and design. D&A is going against the trend of mass production, these objects are produced in a limited series or as a unique piece.

This table and chairs are made from solid molten glass and weigh app. 600 kg. Hard to make nice pictures here because of very poor lighting.

She mainly makes light, sound and space sculptures.
She developed this low table from massive glass blocks. The luminous effect is obtained by combining uranium with phosphor.

designing a handbag

While digging in my huge stack of material for revamping chairs, I get new ideas. Yesterday night I felt the sudden urge to try to make a handbag with this lot. I have no pattern, just don't know how this will go. Today I will but a heavy burden on my sewing machine (don't let me down).

Decay is a prominent theme in her work.

Have a look on her site (by clicking on her name), her paintings are stunning and catching.

She designed a curtain, a simple polyester fabric has a laser cut pattern that refers to decay, worn out textures.

Colour is the subject of Perry Roberts' work. He only uses 5 colours mixed with black and white. Choice, doubt, decision are the themes in his work.

When designing this stool and a daybed, he did not know which colour to choose. He came up with a creative and flexible solution : different layers of coloured felt he can re-arrange to change the look.
