just a little something while waiting for real inspiration

A few months ago I decided it was time to clear loads of fabric stacked in my sewing room. Some 25 years ago I used to make patchwork. I grew out of that but the many pieces of gorgeous fabrics where still cluttering the cupboards and drawers waiting for that 'I will need them some day'. But now it was time for a serious clearing.

But ... no ... that scrap, no I can't let go. And this one ... no, this was one of my favorites. and ... no ...

You guess what happened.

While I was brooding on a new series of completely different works I made something I did not need to think about. I copied - yes, copied (not my usual doing) - a work from one of my favorite artists : a Japanese woodcut by Friedensreich Hundertwasser. No sketches, no measures taken ... just a cut and sew thing just by looking at a small postcard which I bought at the Kunsthaus Wien.

I finished the colourful appliqué in a few hours - I did not need to buy any material - but I stretched it on a wooden frame only recently. And, ... I do like my copied art. Bright colours to chase dark moods.

And all the fabrics and scraps? Still cluttering my sewing room.

At the beginning of 2001 Silke Wagner purchased a VW-van. During the project the van was used in different cities in Germany by local socio-political groups. Silke Wagner put her exhibition budget to the disposal of these groups. In cooperation with Silke Wagner various projects in public were planned and implemented. The project “nobody is illegal" took place in Frankfurt/Main. The van was repainted to resemble a Lufthansa van marked with the words “Deportation Class”. Later different events were carried out in the bus, focusing on the deportation of refugees by the German airline Lufthansa. The board radio announces a list of victims, some of them died during transportation back to the home country.

I was not going to leave the room without participating in the scar project. Very little time to think about the idea, hardly any time for the execution, but glad I took the time to join in ...

We delivered the rented car at the airport not one minute too early - not one minute too late. Excellent timing. And I left Canada with an experience I won't forget; the very brief meeting with Nadia Myre left an imprint on my soul. (explanation in yesterday's post).

back, but not quite ...

Hi to the regular - and other - readers of my blog. I know they are there although I don't get many comments.

It has been very quiet here since we came back from Canada a few weeks ago. A trip we enjoyed very much.

Trying to keep worries out of my head, but the recent events are still very present. Anita was very much part of our travel. She actually did a part of the voyage with her partner exactly a year ago .

Our very last morning we happened to meet an artist whose works left a big impression on me. The works - in her studio and the solo-exhibition we rushed to in another city - seemed so simple but they told powerful stories. The spirit behind it reminded me so much of Anita I actually became unwell, the emotion was overwhelming.

I did make pictures to put on my blog. I'm just not confident that I will be able to present this artists' work through my pictures; the details and stories get lost this way.
Now who is the artist? I hear you ask. That will be for my next post.
