to the artists, designers and craftspeople who think I call their work kitsch... this is NOT the case, it refers to my own work

I suddenly realize that the picture is somehow confusing. The frame is not standing outside in nature, but is hanging on a large window inside the house.

open studios - quirky details

Approximately a 100 artists, member of Kunst in Huis open their studios. Kunst in Huis is an organisation that works like a library, not for books but for art.

Open studios all over Flanders - Belgium, on Sunday November 18. From 10.00 until 17.00.
Here's a list of all the participating artists.
I hope to see a few, I do love artists' studios.

These pictures were taken a few months ago during the Antwerp open studio art tour. These are the kind of unexpected details you won't find in an exhibition. My kind of thing; as an assemblage artist I do accumulate a lot of objects and sometimes there is this casual mixed match.

Sofie De Groote - poetry in stone

Sofie De Groote carves poetry in stone, playing with letters

this one says :

LA PLUS BELLE HISTOIRE C'EST TOI

Sofie is participating in the annual Kunstroute-Leuven, where artists open their studios. Last year local television came to film her at work. This picture is taken at my house, but from this year on she opens her own studio to the public.

Oppression

One more work in the Oppression series
The problem with these works is that I can't make good photos of them. Each one contains a shard of mirror, so when shooting a picture I get the reflection in the mirror also. I have tried numerous times to make better photos but without success. If I manage to get it right one day, I will post the whole series of 35 pieces. And then I will explain what the work is about.

Cityscape - Arne Quinze

Cityscape is a gigantic dynamic sculpture of tangled wood, in the center of Brussels, by Belgian Artist and designer Arne Quinze.
The installation reflects a moment frozen in time.
It will stay on the site for a whole year and will then be recycled into building material. If you're passing by in the neighbourhood it is worthwhile stopping here. Walking under this construction, with sun rays playing through the slats of wood, is a nice experience. With a span of 40 meters it is quite impressive. 60.000 meters of wood were used to build this - in some articles I read that it was a few kilometer, but ...

The tall building in the background of the picture is the Hilton Hotel, if you get the chance to go to one of the top floors, the view on the structure must be amazing. I only saw a view from above on a picture. To see the whole building process check out the blog.

Daniel Spoerri

No picture post today, our computer has a few problems.
I hope to be back soon
In the meantime you can visit the sculpture garden Il Giardino di Daniel Spoerri in Tuscany – Italy
An immense park on the flanks of the Monte Amiata, with many sculptures scattered all over different types of landscapes; meadow, forest, garden, …….
Absolutely recommended when you are visiting the region. It takes a few hours to visit this interesting place.

nail extraction device

This is the 'tool' used to extract the nails from old beams, for obvious reasons only in use when the weather gets colder. I do prefer the summer season, but I really love the comforting feeling of a nice fire in winter. It is getting colder now, I'm looking forward to gather more material for future projects; I used the most interesting nails in my stock in recent works.
