I Medici - A Renaissance in paper

A Dutch friend invited us to an exhibition we hadn't heard of.  It was not quite the event I would have noticed in the announcements, but I'm very glad we saw it. 

Isabelle de Borchgrave causes wonderment at the transformation of a simple sheet of white paper.  Through the magic of trompe l'oeil she walks us through history meeting one of the most prestigious families in Italian history: the Medici. 

Extraordinary craftsmanship with stunning details.

I was so intrigued by the details - even the heavy jewelry and delicate lace is made from paper and ultra thin slices of corrugated cardboard - that I actually forgot to capture the full costumes, some 30 in total.

A totally different world from the studio posted yesterday.  This is the fun part in a studio tour, it is like travelling in time and space.  A voyage from one world to another, completely different in looks and atmosphere.

sculptor Guido van Vliet

A studio I could spend hours in.  Loving the dust left from carved stone settling on silent figures.  The tools worn from intensive use.  Quirky details adding more charm.  A lovely little bird returning every year to make its nest in the midst of sculptures.  A charming artist who explains his work with passion and love. The kind of studio I love to visit.

Pieter Verstraete - kunstroute-Leuven

Minimalistic poetic small installations in various materials. I liked this one, somehow an outsider in the tour as the artist himself explained, a nice break from the more established forms of art.

A former smithy has found a new destination as a studio space for several artists.  A few of them present their work and studio to visitors this weekend.
