Truc Troc - the post-it notes art fair

The 8th edition of the exchange Fair Truc Troc starts tonight.
Dozens of artists exhibit works at the BOZAR in Brussels and visitors can make offers (no money) to acquire them.
A fun event to attend in a very laid back atmosphere, especially at the end when reading the exchange offers is quite entertaining.

The grey winter days without colour do have a certain charm. Looking back at these pictures taken in September 2011 I feel the urge of getting started with new projects and feel the energy that bright colours and bold patterns give me.

I'd love a space where I could do something like this

two tiny rooms are altered so that quite a number of people can sit together

altered bathtubs are turned into sofas

funky atmosphere that brings a smile on my face

a view towards the kitchen that can be closed by tilting the tabletop

impressive in size and in very good condition as it stands here since 1998 (photos taken in 2010)

my favourite combination of materials; wood, metal and stone

and so lucky to see it in the late afternoon autumn sun

Sculptor, painter and photographer Charles Ross uses sunlight involving time and planetary motion.

Through a lens the sunlight burns a path across a wooden plank.

Clear days create a broad smoke flare, passing clouds leave unburned interruptions, overcast days produce blank boards.

Every day from March 20, 1992 and March 20 1993.

365 boards show the action of the sun during a whole year.

The position of the earth during the seasons will influence the curve of the burn. Curving during winter and summer, straightening during spring and autumn.

Thousands of graves in military cemetaries, overwhelming sad places.

After a sunny, warm and gorgeous indian summer the first chilly wind and drizzle makes one long for a nice and cozy fire.
Just the time to show some pictures of 'The Palace of Ideal Chimneys', a funky and crazy installation.

There is a first time for everything.
A bit hesitant at first when I was contacted to be 'artist in residence' because I am used to silence and solitude. But the idea of giving workshops to young children to work with colour, shapes and composition was challenging enough to jump into a new experience.
It was great... and it isn't finished yet.
Impressions of the past two days...

A white room to avoid distraction, only two small Good Mood Lights to make presentations and show a tiny part of what I do. Working with colour and shapes, upcycling 'ordinary' every day objects.

Apart from these light-sculptures, everything else here will be made by the participating children. The second day eager adults join the party and enjoy themselves just as much as the youngsters.

I was pleasantly surprised to see a few unusual 'sculptures' popping up

more colour is added

so much fun to see how focused the children are, explaining why they used this or that item

coming up with unexpected constructions

great to see how some children focus on strong colour combinations, different personalities start to reflect in the works

testing building skills, especially the boys were very 'constructive', girls more focused on shape and colour

the first day, testing the limits of daring constructions
the second day, downscaling and focusing on colour and shape

the 'mirror' series

ending with a small scale sculpture of each participant to be exhibited

made by 9 to 12 year old kids

replacing the plastic items by earthenware and porcelain cups and saucers from the thrift shop

one of the youngest artists

so is this one with a dynamic sculpture

children and adults, everybody seems to have a great time

last night I dreamed about it, and for once I didn't have a nightmare...

a sunny Sunday morning in a sleepy little village

We're taking our last apples and pears to the mobile fruitpress. A few weeks ago we bottled our first harvest, now we're trying the bag-in-box version.

Temperatures are dropping outside, first frost is predicted the coming night. Preparing our home for the coming winter blankets are released from chests, patchworks I made from skirts, blouses and odd pieces of fabric regain their place on the seats.

When I saw the patchworks made by Krijn Giezen I gasped for air, these stunning pieces literally took my breath away. He made them end 1950'.

Can't keep my eyes from this one, I'd love it on my wall if only I had a wall large enough...

I need to make a few decisions that will have an influence on my work in the months to come. Since I won't be a lonely soul in these projects - that is how I function best - it is hard to imagine how things will work out.
